It is recommended that you apply for your Marriage License from the County Clerk at least one month prior to the event. You will need photographic proof of identification and proof of your age - either a driver's license, passport or alien resident card. Couples must appear together to obtain their License. In the case of any previous marriages, you must show proof that you are no longer legally married if the divorce occurred within the past two years. The Marriage License is only valid for a period of 90 days from the date you receive it. If your marriage does not take place within those 90 days, a new Marriage License must be obtained.
In Los Angeles County you can apply for your License online up to fourteen (14) days before you actually appear together at the Registrar/Recorder's Office to physically pick up the License. You can also pre-order certified copies of your completed Marriage License at the same time that you go to the Registrar/Recorder's Office for your License in Los Angeles County.
